Dear morning

not a cloud in the sky but for a few wisps
off to the northwest
four goldfinch fly by in  scalloped wave flight
now looking out toward the valley
Great Spirit’s large hands beckon
with a larger vision,
deeper sense of this beautiful land
they pick up a blanket of the surface,
it is being unfurled
then settles again over the shape of the forest
like a skin

as the skin on our bodies
the hairs, all the details, veins, sweat glands
whorls in our flesh, elbows, nooks and crannies
so similar to the earth’s skin
and precious
the hands of the Great Spirit care
with such love and immensity for this tiny planet
as for each of us

"take care of the earth
with the same care as for your hair, your eyes,
eyes of the earth want to be kept safe as well,
every body of water a mirror of the earth
as precious and with such vision,
what reflections we see
in each other’s eyes, on the surface of her lakes
and rivers"
